Summary: kde crash upon IDE disk poweroff
Product: kde
Version: unspecified
Platform: unspecified
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: crash
Priority: NOR
Component: general
AssignedTo: unassigned-bugs at kde.org
ReportedBy: cosmicvisitor at hotmail.com
Version: unknown (using 4.2.2 (KDE 4.2.2), Kubuntu packages)
Compiler: cc
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.28-11-generic
Occasionally, the power to one of my IDE disks (not system one, but one I use
to store videos, etc.) is lost then coming back on within 1 second. I have
established this due to the fact that during this process the disk rotation
sound pitch lowers and returns immediately and the head is making noises
identical to those when the machine is booting up.
This crashes KDE and makes it unresponsive, if during that time I'm using the
hard drive, e.g. watching a movie. I've waited up to 15 minutes for it to
respond.
Couldn't this be handled a bit more gracefully instead of taking down the
entire system, such as for instance showing you a dialog (like in the other OS)
or otherwise make this process more transparent as in losing a USB disk
connection in the same OS?
Regards
Nik
