You can try running gdb from a virtual terminal (Ctrl+Alt+F1), you have to
export the DISPLAY variable ("export DISPLAY=:0") to ensure that SystemSettings
run in your current KDE session.
Or can't you even switch terminals when the hang occurs? Thanks
