Update: I started plasma under Xfce, but after a while when doing some things
in the menu, it crashed.

Unfortunately I have not time to explore this further at the moment, but will
look at it later, get a backtrace to see if it crashes in the same place etc.

But what this means is that it seems to be not kwin only, and therefore I
thought it worth mentioned.
