It seems like a more deeper problem. If you've application like mozilla
(firefox?) and thunderbird, for example, it is not kde fault.
You should try using a new user account or re-install the whole system from
scratch.

If you still have this problem you should ask on the Ubuntu forum, it could be
an Ubuntu problem.
