I am also getting the same problem in sound output from Kubuntu. But I am not
running windows :-)

OS: Kubuntu, KDE 3.5.9
KMIX: 2.6.1
Supported Sound Drivers: ALSA + OSS
Hardware: Asus A7Jc (notebook)

I tried both ALSA, OSS and Threaded OSS settings, no discernible difference in
output with Master, PCM and Front sliders up full at 100%
