I tried running Thunderbird 2.0.0.17 on a KDE 4.1.1 desktop (Kubuntu), but I
couldn't reproduce the problem: I set up a Google Mail account (IMAP) and
browsed through the emails, waited about 20 minutes and worked with Thunderbird
again, but I didn't note any unresponsiveness or high CPU usage. Closing worked
fine.
I don't really have an idea what the reason might be that it goes wrong for you
only in KDE, the only thing I can think of is the window manager.
You might want to report this to Opensuse (just in case it's a distro-specific
issue): http://en.opensuse.org/Submit_a_Bug
Thanks!
