Summary: Ctrl+G key no longer recognized
Product: kde
Version: 3.5
Platform: Fedora RPMs
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: general
AssignedTo: unassigned-bugs at kde.org
ReportedBy: usnay12345 at isomedia.com
Version: (using KDE 3.5.10)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Fedora RPMs
This problem observed in Konqueror and KDE Control Panel, and in non-KDE app
Nedit. I don't know of anything else that uses Ctrl+G to test.
.
Nedit has Ctrl+G as the default Find Next key. When I had KDE 3.5.8, I
configured Ctrl+G as new shortcut for Find Next in Konqueror. It continued to
work in KDE 3.5.9. After installing KDE 3.5.10 RPMs, it no longer works in
Konqeror and no longer works in Nedit. In KDE 3.5.10, pressing Ctrl+G in Nedit
does nothing, and pressing Ctrl+G in Konqueror now displays the one-letter
labels for jumping to various parts of the screen.
I.E. *** Ctrl+G now behaves the same as pressing Ctrl without any other key.
***
Displaying the current Konqueror keyboard shortcuts shows that Ctrl+G is the
(custom) primary shortcut for Find Next. I tried to redefine the Find Next
action (in Konqueror) as Ctrl+G by:
Settings > Configure Shortcuts
select Find Next
select the None radio button and press OK to clear the old definition, then go
back into it and continue with ...
select Custom radio button
in the popup, press Ctrl+G
*** Expected (this is the behaviour shown by past releases) It shows "Ctrl+G"
in the key box.
*** Actual While Ctrl+G is being held down, it shows "Ctrl+" in the key box.
When Ctrl+G is released, the key box is erased -- no key combination was
accepted.
Using Control Center, Regional & Accessibility > Keyboard Shortcuts >
Application Shortcuts, the same thing happens.
So, it looks like something in KDE no longer recognizes the Ctrl+G keystroke
combination.
This happens on two machines:
machine 1:
home-built machine
AMD processor
Fedora 8
Fedora's KDE RPMs
Microsoft 2000 keyboard
no KVM switch
Ctrl+G worked on KDE 3.5.9 and below, fails on KDE 3.5.10.
machine 2:
IBM branded machine
Intel processor
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4.7
kde-redhat.org KDE RPMs
IBM keyboard
has a KVM switch
Ctrl+G worked on KDE 3.5.9 and below, fails on KDE 3.5.10.
