One would reasonably expect that "configure desktop" or "system settings"
would get you somewhere where you could turn off the annoying noises.
The most obvious choice being "notifications" and next obvious "sounds".
Neither work.  Using "system bell" (see bug 79108) does not get around
the problem either.

So, whether the problem is because there is no way to turn off the feature,
or whether the problem is because I did not find where it got hidden,
there _is_ a problem in that it is too hard if not impossible to turn
off irritating little noises.
