Summary: KDE programs cause HDs to spin up unnecessarily
           Product: kde
           Version: unspecified
          Platform: Ubuntu Packages
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: NOR
         Component: general
        AssignedTo: unassigned-bugs kde org
        ReportedBy: cprise gmail com

Version: (using KDE 3.5.9)
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages
Compiler: gcc version 4.2.3 (Ubuntu 4.2.3-2ubuntu7)
OS: Linux

The internal SATA drives in my systems are automatically spun down with 'sg_start --stop' when they are idle.

However, they are all made to spin up again when certain KDE programs are run (Konqueror, Kaffeine) or any time a KDE File dialog is opened. I haven't noticed this problem with programs based on GTK+, WXWidgets or console.
