Summary: KDE 4.1 RC 1 running on XGL causes the xserver to crash
randomly when menus are opened in certain apps
           Product: kde
           Version: unspecified
          Platform: SuSE RPMs
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: crash
          Priority: NOR
         Component: general

Version: (using KDE 4.0.98)
Installed from: SuSE RPMs
OS: Linux

I installed KDE 4.1 rc1 on an updated opensuse 10.3 system ( asus EEE 4G surf ). When I use XGL as my prefered X server, and in the KDE settings enable desktop special effects, X server completely crashes. I'm using XGL version git_070104-77.3 ( latest version my yast seems to pick up, not sure if i need another repo ). The crash seems to occur ( altho not all the time ) when I open the settings menu in yakuake or when the address bar opens up in Opera, although judging by the symptoms I think that it might be much more than this. My .xsession-errors file contains some errors which I think are related:

kwin: X Error (error: BadDrawable [9], request: X_GLXVendorPrivate[GLX+16], resource: 0x14029d3)
X Error: BadWindow (invalid Window parameter) 3
  Major opcode: 20
  Minor opcode: 0
  Resource id: 0x3a0137d
kwin: X Error (error: BadDrawable [9], request: X_GLXVendorPrivate[GLX+16], resource: 0x1402d49)
kwin: X Error (error: BadDrawable [9], request: X_GLXVendorPrivate[GLX+16], resource: 0x3a011f5)

Thanks. And amazing job on 4.1 so far, I have finally dropped 3.5x in favor of 4.1 beta 1 as a primary desktop. Really amazing technology :)
