This began occurring after I updated to the above Suse version from their factory set of KDE files on 2 July 08.  There was additional updates on 3 July 08, which included a based libqt update but this did not resolve the issue.

Desktop is missing, but krunner still works and applications will load if krunner can locate the application.  

Below is the debug dump given when it crashes.  The crash debug prompt appears prior to the desktop startup sound.  The desktop is entirely black except for mouse trails and where any window is opened, and then the shadow of the windows appearance remains.  

I have also reported this bug to Novell and it is in their bug database with roughly the same title/description.
