Summary: Watching video with mplayer causes X to crash
Product: kde
Version: unspecified
Platform: Ubuntu Packages
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: crash
Priority: NOR
Component: general
AssignedTo: unassigned-bugs kde org
ReportedBy: miikka.salminen gmail com
Version: (using KDE 4.0.0)
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages
OS: Linux
Watching videos with command line mplayer in KDE 4.0.1 causes X.org to crash. Apparently this happens only with video (playing audio only files works fine).
I have tried opening many different kinds of video files with different codecs with mplayer, and the each time the following happens:
- mplayer seems to load the video correctly without complaining about anything
- a video window (with black inside it) appears on the desktop
- after this X.org immediately crashes and restarts
Other players like VLC and Kaffeine seem to play videos without any problems, so I'm not sure if this is a KDE or an mplayer bug. However, mplayer works fine in KDE 3.5.8, so this is probably some kind of compatibility issue.
I have compositing features of KWin enabled.
My mplayer version is dev-SVN-r25189-4.1.3 (self compiled).
I have two displays and the configuration is managed by NVidia's TwinView.
Here's a backtrace from the end of Xorg.log:
