Summary: Simultaneous dual mouse support
Product: kde
Version: unspecified
Platform: Compiled Sources
OS/Version: unspecified
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: general
AssignedTo: unassigned-bugs at kde.org
ReportedBy: kde-2 at dotancohen.com
Version: (using Devel)
Installed from: Compiled sources
I propose that KDE support two or more mice simultaneously, each with it's own
mouse pointer, so that more than one person could control a program at the same
time. Today a user can connect two USB mice to a computer and KDE will respect
both of them to manipulate the mouse pointer. However, assigning two mouse
pointers, one for each mouse, would be much better. The two pointers could be
distinguished by different colours or directions (one North-West pointing mouse
pointer as is standard now, and one pointing North-East or even South-East).
The uses for such a configuration are varied. Here are a few scenarios:
1) Two users who wish to use two different programs at the same time. This
happens often in our household on our widescreen monitor: I may have Okular
open while the wife works in Digikam. I tell her when to move the page down, as
she has the mouse.
2) Two-player games
3) Whiteboard collaboration.
4) Browsing Digikam together. Currently, with one mouse pointer, there must be
a 'leader' when two people browse photos together. With two mouse pointers,
both people are equal.
