Summary: Kcmshell4 "fileshare" doesn't work with root
           Product: kde
           Version: unspecified
          Platform: Compiled Sources
        OS/Version: unspecified
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: NOR
         Component: general
        AssignedTo: unassigned-bugs at kde.org
        ReportedBy: kate_baggins at yahoo.ca

Version: (using Devel)
Installed from: Compiled sources

Running kcmshell fireshare as root in Konsole gives me the following errors:

Error: "/var/tmp/kdecache-kalinda" is owned by uid 1000 instead of uid 0.
Error: "/tmp/kde-kalinda" is owned by uid 1000 instead of uid 0.

Putting quotes around "fileshare" only spits out the first error. I can run it
as a normal user, but that's pretty pointless since editing anything in Samba
requires root. Actually, when I run System Settings as root, the Samba module
isn't there (under Advanced settings), but it is for a normal user. This
essentially means there's no way to edit Samba in the KDE GUI.

This problem happens in the KDE Nightly Builds and in 4.2 Beta 1 on Intrepid,
except in the latter there is no Samba module in System Settings, even as a
normal user.

If I change the ownership of the things listed in the errors, kcmshell simply
doesn't run at all as root.
