A suggestion has been made on the Mandriva Bugzilla (http://qa.mandriva.com/show_bug.cgi?id=36192) that KDE4 is now checking the machine's capabilities to determine whether to activate or deactivate 3D features and may have incorrectly decided my video card supports those features.

1. Is this plausible? The problem appeared with Mandriva's latest KDE4 updates, which I believe are RC2.

2. If it is plausible, is there any way to force deactivation of 3D features (command line or config files)?
