If you are willing to compile the mentioned branch by yourself, you can
create new object diagrams from the toolbar above the diagram windows.
Creating object diagrams from the menu is only possible if you run
umbrello from an installed location e.g /usr/local. In theory with that
diagram it should be able to connect objects with association. It may
not work because of containing bugs.
