Right click an association, choose properties, and type in an association name. Only one letter shows up, for example the name 'raisedBy' displays an 'e'. The name usually shows up eventually, but I haven't pinned down the methods that will always make it show: shading and unshading don't work; but just now I tried reopening the properties dialog, clicking 'Apply' then 'OK', and there it was.
