making some design changes for the plugin management system. we don't need
such a highly responsive system. it turns out that a categorical load works
just fine and has some nice benefits - implementing a nice kde-like splash
screen where we have icons for all the major plugin categories. but, the
plugin system hasn't changed and its still pretty capable.
