The kpart has been thought about but it's not been done yet because it
is a /lot/ of work.  Making the main widget into a read-only kpart so
you could view diagrams in Konqueror might well be possible but
probably not very useful.  Integrating it into kdevelop is a lot more
work, it would involve serous changes to the code base like the
internal storage of classes etc.  Then you get into round-trip
software engineering (updateing code when diagrams updated and
vice-versa) which is very difficult.  But if you think you can manage
it then absolutly we're interested.

Improving adding/changing operations/attributes sounds interesting.
Can you give us more of an idea of what you're thinking of?  All
contributions gladly accepted of course.

Make sure you're using the KDE CVS version if you're working on
Umbrello 1.
