So it the problem happens for your specific video collection, not any other 
type and not for a new video collection? It may be a bad character or 
something that does not get included in the XML output correctly. I don't 
know why  the problem would appear suddenly, though.

If your file is small enough, do you mind emailing it to me directly?

As for the crashing, it's hard to tell. You don't have the Tellico debug 
packages installed, so there's not really any info there for me to figure out 
what is going on. I'm not sure how to use the Kubuntu debug packages either.
