Start with the ‘METADATA’ section of the glasscoder(1) man page. 

For the player, passing ‘--metadata-out --json’ flags to glassplayer(1) will cause it to emit metadata updates via STDOUT, using the same JSON schema that is documented for glasscoder(1).
