So, how many more years before we're willing to break binary compatibility
and release taglib2?

Perhaps instead of worrying about breaking existing software, why not make
sure v2 can be installed alongside v1 (including both versions of header
files), so that people that are willing to upgrade can do so, while at the
same time maintaining support for the older software.
