I will add, there are now (development snapshot) AppImages of RKWard KF6
that are expected to work on a wide range of distributions:

After downloading, you'll have to chmod u+x the downloaded file.
IMPORTANT: While the AppImage embeds an installation of R, this is
quite limited in functionality, for technical reasons. Importantly, you
will not be able to install most R packages. However, you can run the
AppImage as:
./rkward-xyz-AppImage --r-executable /usr/bin/R
to use your system installed full-featured R. (This is still
fairly fresh, and admittedly still somewhat experimental, therefore no
UI support for selecting the R version, so far).
