Hi!
Once again, it's time to release a new version of RKWard. While not too many
visible features have been added, the current development sources contain a
sizeable number of bugfixes. Also, there have been significant internal changes:
RKWard now consists of two separate processes, one for the frontend, one for
the backend, which helps to iron out some incompatibilities with certain
packages (rJava, and RGtk2, in particular), and to enhance stability, overall.
Of course, all the changes need to be tested, and so, if you have a bit of
time to spare, please participate in testing. Details on where to find sources
and / or binaries of the 0.5.5 pre-releases can be found here:
https://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/rkward/index.php?title=Release_Schedule
The testing phase will be open until March 6, 2011. Please try to provide your
feedback until then. The targetted official release date for RKWard 0.5.5 is
March 14, 2011.
-- Translators --
Now is a good time to start updating your translations. As usual, the deadline
for sending updated translations ends with the testing phase, i.e. March 6,
2011.
-- Developers --
I have created a separate branch for the release in SVN
(release_branch_0.5.5). This means, you are free to do any type of changes in
trunk, as usual. However, if you want a change to become part of the release,
it will have to be merged into the release branch. Write a mail to rkward-
devel, if unsure.
Regards
Thomas
