Hm, acutally, I just found out that we do not set a fixed font in the Console
after all. It seems like there simply is no way to force the katepart to use
a monospaced font (programmatically), at least none that I could find.

To set up a fixed font, do the following (rather counter-intuitive, I admit):
Select File->New->Script File. Now select Settings->Configure Editor. Under
"Fonts & Colors"->Fonts select your favorite monospaced font. The font will
apply to both script files, and the R Console window.

Regarding the command log: I did (try to) make sure a fixed spaced font it always
used there (the one you configured as fixed width font in KDE's control center.
It works, here. Could you make sure you actually have set a monospace font as
"fixed with font" in KDE?
