SOLVED:
Turns out it was a combination of two different issues

Tell cmake about KDE dir

export PATH=$PATH:/usr/lib/kde4/bin

If the above error regarding KDE4Internal_DIR persists remove 'CMakeCache.txt'
and try again

A new error: 
/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lphonon

... is solved be enabling 'pre-released' and 'unsupported' updates and then
installing libphonon-dev
