language preferences and plugins

any chance you are running directly from the build directory? In that
case - for developer convenience - plugin files are first looked up in
the source tree. Translations (and a few icons) will not be found that
way. So try make install (scripts/import_translations.py, if
necessary), and run from /usr/bin/rkward for testing that.

(At least that works for me, and yes, I keep forgetting, and wondering
about the same thing myself, quite regularly...)
