Did you try waiting ~20 seconds? Any result?

(In theory, the frontend should time out try to wait for the token to
arrive, and conclude that startup has failed. An error message should
be shown. After that a restart might be possible after all. If, even
after waiting, no error message is shown, something must be stuck at an
even deeper level in the transmitter thread..

Anyway we had a somewhat similar problem on Windows 10 (although the
symptoms were different). I wonder whether the same workaround helps,
so I've activated that, for experimentation. Could you try git master
(or AppImage #45, tomorrow)?
