both are madatory parts of the URL, though.

i changed the default, but didn't rename the option. i think it's obvious 
enough when you see the dialog.

yeah, it's clearly package management. i'd say it would best fit the second 
tab (install/update/remove R packages). either by adding a button and opening 
a new dialog, or by maybe adding a radio button to select if you want to 
install from package repositories (default) or a git repository.

is it probably a good idea to keep track of packages that were successfully 
installed this way so that RKWard could offer to use the same settings again 
to fetch updates?

i.e., if you have the plugin installed, you should be able to update via this
