using <formula> disables submit

hi,

i'm trying to use the <formula> element in a new plugin. whatever i do, the 
submit button never becomes available. if i replace the <formula> node with a 
simple <checkbox>, everything behaves as expected. is there something broken 
in the logic handling of <formula> nodes? is that element fit for duty at all?
