Hi,

an update on this:

I tried with KDE 4.4.1 (kdebase-runtime, and even kdebase-apps included), R
2.11.0, and RKWard 0.5.3. Unpacked it's around 600MB (+ some overhead for the
many small files; I did not try to make an ISO image, yet, but I would guess it
will fit by a narrow margin). Packed into a self-extracting archive with 7zip
this comes down to ~129MB, which isn't all that bad, IMO.

Now that the technical side of this is pretty much sorted out, there are some
legal issues to consider. First is this:
http://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/sourceforge/ticket/10927 . The second issue
is complying with GPL version 2, section 3. I guess the easiest option will be
to gather all relevant sources, pack them up, and offer them for download as
well. Of course this will duplicate the effort involved, but according to my
reading, simply pointing out where the sources can be downloaded, regularly,
is not enough for GPL v 2 compliance.

It would also be nice, if one or more people could volunteer to (co-)maintain
this "bundle" (i.e. create a new package for each new release of RKWard, and
perhaps for "important" new releases of R and KDE). The work involved is not
much more difficult than the current installation procedure, but does probably
take around an hour for each release (some of this could be automated).

Regards
Thomas
