Ok, you are now a "sysop" in the wiki. This means you can block users (an 
expiry time of "indefinite" is generally appropriate, as the accounts in 
question are dedicated spammers), and delete pages they created (note: Make 
sure not to delete pages that actually once had legitimate content, as the 
entire history of that page is deleted; in most cases the spammers seem to 
create entirely new pages, however).

About creating new users, I have not taken any actions so far, as there's 
still Prasenjits suggestion about using a Captcha to block bots. If anybody 
has the time to look into how this can be done with MediaWiki, it would be 
much appreciated.

No objections. Of course having the archive mirrored would be one more reason 
to make extra sure spam never reaches the archive in the first place.
