Hi,

true. However there's not much we can do about this. We ship our own version
of r.xml, as it is generally more up-to-date than the version in kdelibs
(after all, we're the de-facto maintainers), and of course that conflicts
with the one in kdelibs. The katepart does not seem to support syntax
highlighting definitions installed in any other locations, so we can't just
install to another non-conflicting location.
In the "official" debian package, we explicitely remove this file (which isn't
a good solution, either), and also two files from the R library installation
(I guess they don't conflict on your system, as you're installing to the
default /usr/lib/R/library, instead of the debian
standard /usr/lib/R/site-library).
The easiest way to produce a quick-and-dirty .deb from svn, therefore, is to
fix up the topmost entry in debian/changelog, then do a
# dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot -nc
(I hope I got the option right, not looking it up right now: -nc should tell
dpkg-buildpackage not to worry about having a clean source orig.tar.gz).

Thomas
