not sure, what exactly you mean. xvar and yvar are currently used only to 
provide default axis ranges (so that you are not forced to enter a minimum X 
value, if you specified a maximum X value). Unfortunately, in fact, this 
logic is correct for some types of plots, but not others. Maybe we'll need to 
think about this again, later.

For the generic plot(), I believe it's probably not be possible at all to 
provide a default range. But then, this is not a terribly important feature, 
either.

Yes, I think "Generic Plot" is a better label, and I've changed it. I also 
added some notes on the generic nature of the plot to the help file.
