I sincerely don't see how the release-team can help here.

If you need to convince the maitainer you should find people that know python 
and convince him this is an actual bug that needs fixing or convince him that 
even if it's an actual bug somewhere else workarounding it in kig is worth it 
since it's not that much code and makes everyone's lives easier.
