Fix (workaround?) for unusable mathematical functions in kig

FYI,

Anyone experiencing bug,

I'd appreciate any feedback and testing.  So far, we have evidence this 
bug affects fedora and opensuse.

Unfortunately so far, kig's maintainer has been... reluctant (since it 
apparently does not affect them or their distro)
