You're right, http://lists.kde.org/?l=kde-commits&m=126450750728231&w=2 was linked
to at the start of this thread, it's dated before the 4.4 release but
it must have already been branched.

Since we're about to release 4.5 in a few minutes I'll add a note to
the release notes.
