thank you 1000x, Tom =) i'll test build the tarballs and watch what you've 
done so that when i have the time to help out with these things again 
(post-4.0) then i'll hopefully have learned a bit about how to do it...

but yeah, you're my hero for the week =)

i've added a few graphics/ apps in there as well; i'm building and testing 
them now, and i'll remove apps that don't meet muster.
