I propose that because, imo, previews are the only interresting thing of the "HomePage".
For recently closed tab, I prefer a contextual menu on the tabbar. With previews it is a bit more attractive.
About the previews: I would like their number changed according to the window size : It would optimize the space used.

yes and no.
Yes, the user can type a webshortcut and its query.
No, the url bar do not provide a way for the user to choose the search engine with the mouse: like in the konqueror search bar for instance.
I also would like the user to be able to change the search engine without type the query another time.
I don't propose this earlier because I am waiting the Ivan's magic wand.
