What's the potential issue with software distribution?

In flatpak it's just:
    "finish-args": [ "--talk-name=org.freedesktop.RemoteDesktop1"]

Snap seems to have a mechanism to request to talk to custom DBus services too.

Then it's on us in Discover to say "It's a remote desktop service" at
install time, rather than at run time which is kinda the better place
for something serious.

Ack, Gnome are doing this directly in mutter. I'm adding this as a
bridge into the custom KDE APIs like how the portal currently works.
