Dear Plasma Developers,
I am writing on behalf of JSC "IIT ION GROUP".
First of all, thank you for your work on KDE Plasma and KWin. We truly
appreciate the quality of the KDE desktop and the effort behind its ongoing
development.
We are reporting a serious issue affecting KDE Plasma on Wayland on one of
our Arch Linux laptops. The system intermittently reaches a black screen
with a blinking underscore during graphical startup, and once the session
does start, Plasma and KWin may still experience instability or temporary
hangs.
At the same time, the kernel repeatedly reports NVIDIA GSP-related failures:
- NVRM: _kgspIsHeartbeatTimedOut: Heartbeat timed out
- NVRM: _kgspRpcRecvPoll: GSP RM heartbeat timed out
Additional related graphics messages include:
- WARNING: GPU:0: Unable to read EDID for display device DP-2
- nvidia 0000:01:00.0: [drm] Cannot find any crtc or sizes
Environment summary:
- Arch Linux
- Kernel: 6.19.10-arch1-1
- KDE Plasma 6.6.3
- KWin Wayland
- SDDM 0.21.0-6
- NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Laptop GPU
- NVIDIA Open Kernel Module path
At the moment, we suspect that the primary cause may be located in the
NVIDIA open driver / GSP path rather than in Plasma itself. However,
because Plasma and KWin are visibly affected, we wanted to provide a proper
report in case there is also a KDE-side workaround, mitigation, or known
interaction that should be tracked.
We are attaching our collected logs for review.
We value your work very highly, and we would greatly appreciate it if this
issue could be reviewed as soon as possible.
Thank you for your time and for all your work on KDE.
Sincerely,
JSC IIT "ION GROUP"
