  OK, fair enough. Maybe we could just make the clock + date a bit bigger in general, and not animate it? Here's how it looks with 48pt clock text and 24pt date text (up from 32 and 18), and `spread: 0.2`:

  A larger size further improves legibility against a busy or light background, IMHO.
  BTW, +1 for handling the case where the user starts typing their password before the UI appears; the characters correctly show up  the text field when it appears.
