  This is mainly on external displays with a lot of windows open, some maximized vertically. If you focus on parts of the screen (e.g. to read something in a particular column or use a toolbox), you do not look at the whole window. Imagine someone sitting close to the screen so he has to move his head to see the full screen. In this situation you do not see the complete shadow, but only some parts.
