@David: Unfortunately, I still don't have internet access right now.

If you want, you can merge the current state (I can't right now). Apart from minor known issues, the current version should work as expected, and it would be cool to get feedback that further improves the applet for following releases.

Known minor issues:
- the icons are a bit too big, I guess the margin somehow is wrong. A hint how to fix this is appreciated.
