I gave up on this because there were complaints that it didn't use the widget style / QFrame which I couldn't because it's QML and the QQC desktop style logic is a nightmare.

What about a simple tooltip on the disabled combobox? :)

On the other hand, the Plasma 4 one also had an "Unlock widgets" button.
