It's SDDM that gets to decide this, we default to 1, but have a cmake switch so distros can mod it. I know Kubuntu does as a workaround for working with the installer or something. Clearly Debian does too

Seems you're right. I did try it, but I hit an odd error the first time and assumed it was the sudo thing.
