>     no idea whether it's useful. I can remove it from the UI as it wasn't in the old UI either. I wouldn't mind to remove the feature from the code base either ;-)

If removing automatic logout makes the code makes it noticeably easier and users don't expect it from other DEs (I personally am not aware of any DE offering this), I'd say "Kill it with fire!" (there, I used it, too!).
