Going through the QPA is probably the way forward.

It is just one more of those things that where done through #ifdef in pre-QPA 
times that can now be better solved through new facilities.

My guess would be an addition to QPlatformTheme, it has similar things like 
native dialog and native menu/menubar integration already.
