This is already implemented. This tray icon will only be "active" and shown
if there is activity (from any of the services) for more than 3
seconds and hidden
again when there is no activity again after 3 seconds.

All it is supposed to do, give the user an indication whats happening with
nepomuk and which service might cause it. In default the indexer is only
active when the system is idle, but still this is a good way for any user
to check which service does some work. The information that is shown
here is rather basic though, for the FIleindexer/Webminer its just the
current file and for the akonadi stuff the current processed collection.
