Alex, I noticed you just assigned timer to yourself. I remember reading that David Bettio had updating that (and Calendar) as his GSOC project: http://blog.uninstall.it/2012/06/24/my-gsoc-project-port-plasma-calendar-and-other-widgets-to-qml/ I think he passed GSOC so both of those should be somewhere.
